Thanks, Jeff Microsoft said late Friday that it has reached a $1.1 billion settlement in a California class-action lawsuit.
The case, which alleged that Microsoft unlawfully wielded its Windows monopoly to overcharge California consumers, was set to go to trial before California Superior Court Judge Paul Alvarado on Feb. 24. The agreement is subject to Alvarado's approval.
The settlement means that individuals and businesses in California that purchased Windows or certain Microsoft application software between Feb. 18, 1995, and Dec. 15, 2001, will be able to apply for vouchers that can buy computers or software from Microsoft or other companies.
