SIIA Responds to New European Case Against Microsoft | |

The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) today issued a statement by Ken Wasch, President of SIIA, in response to the European Commission's new case against Microsoft. The case alleges that Microsoft has taken a monopoly position in desktop operating systems -- Windows 2000 in particular -- and leveraged that dominant position in the market for low-end servers. The European Commission points to Microsoft's limiting of technical information and interoperability, abusive licensing, and monopolistic implementation of Media Player. These issues are distinct from the case underway in the U.S. and do not duplicate that proceeding. ``Today is a first step in a process,'' said Wasch. ``The Commission's statement identifies a key aspect of promoting competition in a networked economy: the low-end work groups server market on which all of our PC's depend and, new applications such as Media Player.'' | ||
