FBI Arrests Four In Microsoft Piracy Case | |

Federal Bureau of Investigation agents arrested four men and seized $10.5 million worth of counterfeit Microsoft software that included disks with replicas of the company's new hologram technology intended to prevent piracy. The arrests capped a 14-month investigation of a group that obtained the pirated software overseas and sold it at what appeared to be hugely discounted prices, authorities said Friday. "These are not people burning CDs in their garage," said Richard LaMagna, senior manager of world-wide piracy enforcement for Microsoft. "This is a well-financed, well-organized group." Arrested Thursday, all from the Los Angeles area, were Ted Chien; Raymond Huynh Wong; Henry Chi Wong; and Eddy Chun Yao King. A fifth man named in the complaint, Cheuk Hon Wong, is a fugitive. The suspects offered the copied programs--including several versions of the Windows operating software and the Office suite of programs--for hundreds of dollars below the retail price. | ||
