  Invitations go out for Microsoft Software Update Services - SA Edition Beta Program

As part of our ongoing efforts to add value to Software Assurance (SA) customers, we have decided to create a special level of Microsoft Software Update Service (MSUS) that gives SA customers additional benefits. Microsoft Software Update Service-Software Assurance (MSUS-SA) Edition will be built on the free version of Microsoft Software Update Services which provides security patch management for small and medium sized enterprises. MSUS is a way to take security-related software updates from windowsupdate.com and bring them inside of your corporate firewall for easier distribution. For small and medium enterprises on SA, here is how we plan to extend MS SUS to provide you extra value:

  • Windows 2000/XP Service Packs. Windows 2000 Service Pack 3, Windows XP Service Pack 1 Beta and Windows 2000 Security Rollup Package (SRP).
  • Recommended QFE’s. The latest Windows and Internet Explorer service packs and other important updates. Some examples of Recommended Updates are: Update for Interrupted Installations using Windows Installer, RAS Authentication Update, Active Directory Mixed Mode Update, Network Load Balancing Update, COM+ Thread update, Windows Messenger Audio update etc.
  • Application Compatibility Updates. Windows XP & Windows 2000 were designed to permit post-installation improvement via downloadable updates. The Application Compatibility Update is a package of software updates that help Windows XP  &Windows 2000 users to expand their application compatibility support—or avoid common issues—with certain applications. Microsoft recommends that you download this compatibility update if you are having problems with any of the programs this update is designed to support.
  • As more content becomes available, SA customers will be notified.
