You might be pretty happy with Windows XP. But Windows continues to suffer from more than its share of drawbacks: From the newer operating system's incompatibility with older software to Microsoft's well-known security problems, Windows still engenders a fair amount of user aggravation. Windows XP also subjects its users to the indignity of the Microsoft Product Activation service: You might have to ask Microsoft for a new key if you upgrade more than one or two major components. | ||

NT 3.51 and the following versions did not come out after Millenium, MS had for years two separate product lines: a "Personal" one that started with Windows 1,2,3 etc, and a "Professional" one represented by NT (New Technologies). BobSmith - we are discussing using RH8 on the desktop. MOST users would need a packaged sol'n for that to occur, not a download. I mean, imagine that WinXP was only available via download. How nasty would that be for the average home user? VERY NASTY! http://www.redhat.com/apps/commerce/
sodablue, great comment about Commodore. Funnier still... their stock was priced at $3/share in that press release. Redhat is at $4 now. |

With enough COM wrappers written in C++, you can do a heafty amount of coding in VB. All three of the tiers of Windows DNA are quite commonly coded all in VB using Microsoft's COM wrappers - ADO, FSO, etc.
For further clarification, I did VB until C# jumped on the scene and primarily do C# now. |

| RANT, didn't you say that nobody is comparing Linux with Windows? This article is an example of just what I said. Linux in this article is being compared with Windows. As always, the conclusion is that it is not yet up to par with Windows for the needs of the majority of Windows users. My question is what was the point of writing the article when that fact hasn't changed - that Linux is not to par with Windows for the needs of the majority of Windows users. |

Ah, I was taking your statement:
You are confusing Linux with Lindows. Linux has never had an objective to be 'like Windows'. to mean that there weren't comparisons being made. My mistake. "And after they reached that conclusion and they DIDN'T report it, would you be complaining about that?" Yeah, you are so right. |
