Microsoft's 'Velocity' too early for comparisons
Time: 23:33 EST/04:33 GMT | News Source: SD Times | Posted By: Kenneth van Surksum

Microsoft’s distributed in-memory application cache platform, codenamed “Velocity,” is positioned to bring caching to the masses by integrating with the .NET Framework. However, it is too raw to be compared to fully matured products, including those developer by its partners, the company admits.

Microsoft announced the availability of a Community Technology Preview (CTP) of Velocity Tech·Ed Developers on June 3. When ready for prime time, Velocity’s feature set will include a defined local cache, a partitioned cache and a replicated cache, in addition to load balancing and failover facilities.

A partitioned cache is designed for activity data and replicated caching caches reference data, while a local cache stores frequently accessed objects and can front-end partitioned cache data.
