The entire personal computer industry is gearing up for Microsoft's Oct. 22 release of Windows 7, by most accounts the best version of its operating system in years. Sheech. My son's already asking me to get a copy of Win7 for his MacBook Pro. 4 months into OS X.* he still misses Windows.

Engadget is like 400 comments into this story...
Remember the clip of Jobs saying MS has no taste? Really? Well... ok, but Apple simply lacks class... I don't see a shred of it in them. Windows 7 is not just good, or really good. Vista was really good when deployed by good builders. Windows 7 is fat better than that in so many small ways - what they have done in search alone is simply bad to the bone great. Apple is just really sour and they fear that what Windows 7 will do is completely and utterly slaughter the notion that Windows is not secure or elegant. 7 just does that - it stuffs a giant, meaty, accomplished fist down the pie holes of classless trolls. and Schiller came off looking like a complete ass. |

| I got a feeling that the unspoken thinking at Apple is that "we make great hardware and if you choose to dual boot to Win7; we won't mind". |

#1 I know plenty of those types... just waiting till they have a good excuse to jump off an Apple box. Now they are happy they have a lifeboat to boot to.
#3 rofl #4 True. However, there are alternatives to their hardware that dollar for dollar are a better deal with more versatility. IMO they should start selling cases... Apple has rocked in that department for years. #5 A chill running up your leg eh? I for one am thrilled about Win7. It seems the media doesn't plan to kill this one like Vista. Users are more attuned to safer practices so dealing with the restrictions inside 7 won't seem as painful as Vista. Hardware Manu's got burned to all hell on Vista so they are on board with keeping things straight. The adoption rate for this OS will be astonding imo. A company I work with who never upgrades will be completely Win7 by the end of the year. |

| I installed Windows 7 Pro 64-bit on a slow Acer 1.4-GHz notebook last night. Outlook imported a PST file 3 times faster in Win 7 64-bit than when the machine was running Vista 64-bit. The machine runs much better in all respects with 7 than Vista. Very impressive for a 1.4-GHz Core CPU. The only way Apple can screw this up is to release iTunes that crashes Windows 7. Wait, didn't they do that with Vista? |

The media didn't kill Vista; Microsoft did it to itself. Vista was a load of ass when it was first released. The media simply made sure that everyone knew about its problems. "The media" is now already proclaiming how wonderful 7 is. Is the media fickle, or reporting it as they see it? It's very self-serving to state that the media killed Vista because they're anti-Microsoft, but they praise 7 because 7 is good. You can't have it both ways. |
