Windows XP won't support USB 2.0 | |

Microsoft will not support a budding peripheral-connection standard in its forthcoming Windows XP operating system, instead favoring a technology developed by Apple Computer. The Redmond, Wash.-based software maker said it will not include support for USB 2.0, the latest iteration of the universal serial bus connection technology, in Windows XP, its next-generation operating system expected later this year. Microsoft will instead throw its support behind IEEE 1394, also known as FireWire, which was developed by Apple. | ||

| They aren't doing it in favor of it... that crap that cnet puts up is just that, crap. MS reps in the beta newsgroups have stated that it is not going to be support JUST because there are no products out for it. |

| I thought there were already a few products out that are USB 2.0 enhanced like the new Predator CD Writer from Iomega which will copy at 8x when USB 2.0 systems are out ;o) |

| #5 They aren't supporting it because it's not even a standard yet. Btw, USB2 maybe be able to have a higher peak performance, but Firewire has a high sustained performance, and it's not nearly as taxing on the CPU as USB is. Finally, for OEM's to have the new Windows logo on their computers, it can't have any of those things that you stated. |

| That's NEW computers from OEMs, has absolutly nothing to do with the OS or anything of that nature. |

| On one hand, I hope USB 2 ends up being a flop and FireWire becomes the standard, because FireWire is so much superior to USB in every respect. Except for cost. Which, on my other hand, makes me want to support USB because it isn't so frickin' expensive. USB is great for keyboards, mice, and joysticks, and maybe printers, but leave all the heavy data transfer to FireWire like my digital video camera. |
