Google is a bummer of a place to work at says internal Microsoft email. | |

An interesting view inside Google as a workplace has surfaced on the net. This could be either a look at the actual reality of Google or just a desperate attempt by Microsoft HR to boost employee morales and keep its employees within the fortress that is Redmond. Either that or a prankster who hates both companies just as much. The following has been making the rounds on just about every internal email list I belong to in Microsoft. Here it is to share a little insight with the rest of the world. Microsoft is an amazingly transparent company. Google is not. Any peek is a good peek. An anonymous Microsoft employee has posted on a fresh Wordpress.com blog of what appears to be the full contents of an email circulating Microsoft’s internal mailing lists. Patriotically enough, he or she wanted to share this with the rest of the world just to show what a great workplace Microsoft is and Google is not. | ||

Yeah, the pictures make Google look like Hell. Except for all the free stuff, toys and general coolness. Other than that, it sucks.

| Only a fool falls for the food and fun gimmick. Simple pleasures to keep you slaving away at your keyboard at all hours while the sun shines outside on your quick to grow up children and your wife reminisces about what brought the two of you together. Oh, you're not married yet? Even better, since you have no need for a life outside of the corporate campus confines. Twenty-somethings can be so supremely over-confident yet so very gullible... |

| #2: You can always vote with your feet if you don't like working somewhere. There's been ample evidence of MS FUDding its suppliers, partners and customers over the years. This is the first time I've seen them FUD their own staff. |

| The best part of my job has been to hire young people still in college, or recently graduated and watch them mature. It has been an awsome experience to learn with them. Keeping them happy hasn't just been a goal, it has been a pleasure to help them steer around many of the challenges I once faced. I've watched them have kids, buy homes, grow a few gray hairs [which I tease that I am personally responsible for]. I hope Google is able to keep many of its people and they can watch each other change and grow older. It's definately a very cool process to witness. |

Yup. "Bret Taylor and Jim Norris, top Google engineers, have left Google to work at Benchmark Capital, a venture capital firm. Taylor and Norris were largely responsible for the development of Google Maps as well as other Google products. I agree with Iketchum on this: nowadays companies hire people to squeeze them as lemons and then throw them away. This is wrong both ethically and economically speaking.
When HP was HP, meaning before Ms. Fiorina and the followers, their products were among the best on the market; now I would not touch them anymore. Our philosophy is the same one Adriano Olivetti http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adriano_Olivetti implemented more than 70 years ago and the results make me happy both when I read our P/L and when I look at myself while shaving every morning. |
