The public beta for Windows Live Messenger 8.1 has officially launched off Windows Live Ideas today.
According to the Messenger Blog, the following features and improvements are in Windows Live Messenger 8.1:
- Roaming Identity (your display picture and personal message roam with you!).
- New Contact Cards.
- Changes to the emoticons, backgrounds, display picture menus.
- SMS Phone Book.
- Updated Icons that didn’t make it in 8.0.
Previous private builds of Windows Live Messenger 8.1 also had a new “Locations” feature. This has been removed and is unknown if it will make it back. Windows Live Messenger 8.1 also supposedly offfers enhancements to work better on Windows Vista as well although Messenger still has issues with Flash on Vista.
