Not even a $5.9 billion loss could topple Bill Gates as the richest man on the planet. he Microsoft co-founder topped Forbes magazine's rankings of the world's richest billionaires for the 8th straight year, even as his net worth fell 10 percent from a year ago to $52.8 billion. Gates remained comfortably ahead of Warren Buffett, who held the No. 2 spot with $35 billion, according to the 16th annual ranking released Thursday. It was a list most notable for its losers. | ||

One thing i think is too underplayed is the money bill gates gives away. I think that article says that in the past year he's given away billions. When the world trade center went down, he helped raised millions for the victims. When he dies, gates will give all his money to charity. And yet i dont see any articles on that. BIll gates isnt the evil tyrant people make him out to be.

...and Carnegie and Rockfeller weren't the philanthropists they appear to be today...
(ooh, this might piss some people off, but oh well, it's based on a classic Bulgakov account...) ...so Gates can be comforted by the fact that he'll be remembered better when he is dead than he is now while he's alive. |

Of course the haters will still be around. They'll be complaining that Bill's will didn't include a directive to give away and/or open the source of Microsoft's major products. The "competition" will then seek to sue Bill's estate for consumer (their term for competitor) harm. |

Last I checked Bill Gates has never had to hire Pinkerton to keep people working for him... Carnegie did, complete with guns and clubs.
Gates and Microsoft is the shining example of how to run a high tech company. They treat their employees extremely well, they don't limit them, they spur creativity and technical know how. They're rewarded well, treated extremely fairly. They're also extremely fair to their customers, listen to feedback, help out, better the product. It still amazes me why people like jerk keep whining about that. |

No I haven't worked at ms. But I do have many friends there, but then they are all developers.
