Microsoft again pushes back .Net Server | |

Thanks Ben. "Microsoft has again delayed the delivery of a major version of its Windows operating system. Microsoft said late Thursday that Windows.Net Server, the successor to its Windows 2000 Server operating system, will not ship during the first half of 2002, as Microsoft had earlier indicated. The company now hopes to issue the first release candidate--or near-final testing version--sometime in the summer and a final version later in the second half of the year. Conceivably, many customers might not receive the product until next year. " | ||

I think the key thing to keep in mind is that .net server will cost a lot of $, as in thousands of dollars. If you were a business about to buy .net server, you would want the most robust server you could get. Sure there will be service packs, but anything like that takes time to implement. Another thing i think isn't considered too much, is .net server will have all the bugs found in windows xp. I personally think .net server won't ship until winxp sp1 is finished. So basically .net will already have winxp sp1 built in. I think that's good planning and people will like the more stable .net server.

Ok, this is obvious, but it will be interesting to see what 'moves' Microsoft has up it's sleeve to stiffle everything else potentially competing until they _do_ get it out the door...
