Microsoft's attempts to provide compatibility for older applications in its forthcoming Windows Vista operating system is opening the door for attackers, security vendor Symantec alleged in a study about the software's user account protection scheme. Matthew Conover, a principal security researcher with Symantec, wrote in a whitepaper that he " expects several […] privilege escalation vulnerabilities to be discovered." "Windows Vista's developers had to choose the best way to improve the overall security model while still retaining the most backward compatibility. While most of their decisions seem reasonable, two particular decisions lead to several seemingly intractable implementation flaws." | ||

Dear God when is Symantec gonna stop posting crap findings based on builds that are months old and that have ALREADY been fixed in current beta builds?
They seem to be saying: "Hey you'll still need our products 'cause Vista will be so insecure as previous versions of Windows." when in fact everyone knows and will find out for themselves that is not the case. |

If I hear one more person whine about having to be admin to change the time I'm going to flip.
Really, how many people are finding this to be a huge problem? Did they somehow change the efault behavior of XP that automatically syncs the time with time.windows.com? Who is having this problem? |
