Microsoft's surprise announcement Tuesday that it would share about $75 billion with stockholders over four years has investors and analysts wondering if the world's largest software company is still a growth company. If it is, they want to know what's going to drive that future growth, at a time when the PC market where its Windows and Office products dominate has been slowing, and a major new release of Windows, called Longhorn, is widely seen as delayed until 2007. | ||

85% up - how in the world is that in any way static.
3 to 4K new employees in one area alone. More new product releases than ever - especially in tools, as the entire enterprise moves along toward LH and BC! Also, several key initiatives across all aspects of DSI and the IBF and as much work opposite MCE and X-Box. I wonder how many critics have actually looked at MS, carefully; explored MSDN; worked to provide an integrated environment and measured its value - by watching its clients' growth? Just one example, Novell's release of an Exchange connector for select Linuces...yes, but not really...it uses the OWA in EXCH for the connection...so, my point is...the press "implies" one thing, but the reality is a lot less consistent with anything close to what one can do for less headache and cost within the MS "Platform" opposite MS Severs and related services. MS may be more seasoned, but hardly slowing down - it will never do that - too many people too interested in seeing what else they might be able to achieve - regardless of the noise. |

Is it just me or are we all focusing on the wrong measurement here.
We spend alot of time talking about Microsoft growing in THIS way... Year 1 - 19% Year 2 - 17% Year 3 - 14% but the more accurate measure is THIS way... Year 1 - $240M Year 2 - $290M Year 3 - $320M BTW, I've made up all those numbers, but my point is that IT IS GROWTH. This preoccupation we have on percentages unfairly makes little guys look better than big guys. |

Well, true and not ture - for MS and all publiclly traded companies...it comes down to earnings per share - a pretty complex calculation and a necessary and confusing one at that...
We are after all, not on a speci based economy [any more]. The last time that was executed [1852], it ultimately resulted in civil war! That's what happens when that much wealth is wiped out all at once - people get really upset and start doing all forms of crazy things. That is also why our right to own things is so important - it allows the ultimate advantage over any government that would enslave us. |
