Hmmmm. . . . IBM posts an article stating the virtues of running the Wimbledon site, www.wimbledon.org, on Linux, then you go to www.netcraft.com and do a lookup and discover they have been running the site with AIX for almost a year: AIX IBM_HTTP_SERVER/1.3.26 Apache/1.3.26 (Unix) mod_perl/1.24 17-Jul-2003 129.42.53.150 IBM Corporation and just moved back to Linux today.
Its interesting that as much as they tout Linux, the over whelming majority of their own sites, including www.ibm.com, are run on AIX. See the link at: http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/hosted?netname=IBM-RSCH-NET2,129.42.0.0,129.42.255.255 It appears IBM creates a web site for advertisement value, the French Open is an example, and slaps Linux on it. However, they don't seem to use Linux to run their company web sites. Not eating their "own" dog food. Now that will build customer trust and confidence! lol |

#7 Parkker is a blind ignorant FUD spreading Microsoft zealot. Prof. Tanenbaum said "Brown just ignores all the facts and persists in his belief", the exact same thing can be said for Parkker. I mean, have a look at the quote he used in #17, I've included the bit he "accidentally forgot" to mention in bold:
"Linux used ideas from MINIX MINIX used ideas from UNIX UNIX used ideas from MULTICS MULTICS used ideas from CTSS CTSS used ideas from FMS In science, all work is based on what came before it. Nothing unusual here. What Linus didn't do was steal the MINIX code. That has been well documented. (http://www.cs.vu.nl/~ast/brown/codecomparison)" But don't think for a second that facts will get in the way of Parkker'a beliefs, he'll try misdirection next! |

Tanenbaum also said "My conclusion is that Ken Brown doesn't have a clue what he is talking about". Well, at least Brown and Parkker have something in common. Wait a minute. Are you claiming that not only didn't Linux innovate, but that this is perfectly reasonable behavior? That contradicts what you Linux zealots have argued in the past. Linux zealots argue like Republicans, they aren't consistent they just make shit up to try to discredit the opposition. |

#30 soda, the bit between the quotes (they look like this " ") is a quote (go look up the definition of a quote if you're confused - and whilst you're there look up the definition of innovate and invent since you seem to have the same amount of trouble as a few other people here in being able to distinguish the two!).
That is what Prof. Tanenbaum stated, and he is right, people always build upon other's ideas. So I am not claiming that Linux didn't innovate - it did - it took an existing idea and did it in a slightly different way. It wasn't an invention, but it was most certainly an innovation - after all if Microsoft can call EVERYTHING that they copy and modify an innovation then let's not be hypocritical here! "That contradicts what you Linux zealots have argued in the past." Careful when you're throwing around wild generalizations like that. "We zealots" didn't claim any such thing, perhaps once again "you Windows FUD spreading zealots" are putting words in "our" mouths? I've never said that Microsoft doesn't innovate, it does, and so does OSS, the difference between the two is that OSS isn't always screaming and shouting how they are constantly innovating and how everything is a threat to their ability to innovate in the future. Microsoft have innovated in how often they can use the word 'innovate' over and over and over again! Not that I'm taking that comment negatively as I'm not American, but given how Windows zealots argue (Parkker being the perfect example) I wouldn't start pointing fingers too quickly if I were you. |

Huh? Then why are the OSS zealots constantly coming here screaming and shouting about how OSS is constantly innovating by creating new versions of BIND? Let's be serious here, shall we? " Yeah, I am a bit surprised Parker doesn't advocate Linux more the way he argues. Mr. Dee - Bill Joy wrote this horrible editor called vi. I'm not comparing OS to politics... just the argumentation techniques of the zealots. All True Believers are the same no matter what the topic. :-) |

If I recall correctly it's still on the books that the feds can take our gold and that owning over $100 of gold (bullion, coin and certificate) is illegal and punishable by up to a 10K fine and 10 years in jail.
