Apple Computer's iTunes Music Store has notched its 50 millionth song that customers paid to download from the Internet, opening distance between the company and its online music competitors. The announcement underscores a truth about today's paid music download market: Apple still rules. But the company said its iPod audio player is still the real moneymaker in its music strategy.

# 3 it might be, but wait until those people find out that walmart edits the lyrics to conform to Wally's "good morals" system just as they do with CD's and movies. Although I haven't been able to find anything that would indicate that they are selling the songs as they were meant to be.

#7 naI wasn't referring to the song titles, I'm talking about the actual content of the song. CD, VHS and DVD manufacturers always have two versions of their products, the regular one and the one that ships to Walmart. The Walmart version is neutered and guess what? there are no labels indicating it.
I'll do some browsing tonight... maybe I'm wrong since I'm basing my comments on their retail-store policies.

Parkker, you initially said: "This week" implying that Apple would no longer be in the lead next week. Now you are saying 6 months from now. But on top of that, you aren't saying Apple won't be in the lead in six months, but that they will still be in the lead but it will be by some number less than 40 million? And, you won't even say that it'll be Wal-Mart overtaking them, even though you said they would do it individually? Okay. Whatever.
Certainly a whole lot of hedging after so much braggadochio....
Well, let's say Walmart and make a bet then...
Since WalMart just launched, yes, I actually do bet that 6 months from now WalMart is still over 40 million downloads behind the iTMS. What shall the sum be? 50 bucks?

As for clean content versus uncensored, it's a recording studio issue, not an issue with Apple. What many people don't realize is that the studios generally do not release the unedited version on their labels since all radio and video play and a large number of sales will come from the clean version. Generally the artists release the unedited version on their own label or another label but with major label distribution (except to the WalMarts of the world). This way the labels avoid whatever liability may be attached to an offensive song/artist.
(So in the case of 50 Cent, Shady/AfterMath released the clean version and Interscope (much more the dead branch of the AfterMath label even though it was once much bigger than AfterMath) releases the unedited version.)
That being said, I had no problem finding many albums which are unedited on iTMS, whereas WalMart refuses to sell anything that is unedited at all.
Or to restate, Apple is doing nothing to censor their music selection; any censorship is based on what the studios actually make available to them. Whereas, WalMart is very active in censoring music content.

Boy, Parkker, let's reiterate: you claimed the iTMS would be dethroned in a week... by WalMart... then you claimed it would be six months... but they wouldn't be dethroned... they'd just have a smaller lead.... then you claimed they were censoring... using an example which is obviously a joke (but you're too stupid to notice and/or too lazy to check)... then I set you straight again, and re-challenge you on th bet... then you run away for two weeks ... then you come back with this which is not censorship AT ALL!
Whatever, loser!
This is not censorship, moron; this is simple refusal of service. There is no pre-existing content being edited by Apple. They are being offered business they don't want, Apple is turning them down.
So, again, when and who is going to surpass iTMS, and how much do you want to bet?
(Parker: run away!!!!)
