| Soda, yeah, I guess 15 is pretty slow :) I'm up to 70 now, but the agony continues! I usually get over 600K/s... (Not from MSDN, though). |

| #10 - The 650 or so meg file is actually a compressed archive, not an ISO. Once you download it, you can extract it and burn it to CD... but the extracted files are around 2GB in size. This, obviously, would take up about 4 CDs. |

RMD, there is more to it than just compression. When you extract the Enterprise Architect 2003 download, you actually get a total of 1.63GB which is less than 3 CDs worth.
Between the Final Beta and RTM, Microsoft decided it would be best to leave out MSDE entirely. If you look in the same directory which used to contain the MSDE files in 2002 and in the Final Beta of 2003, you only find a file named msde_readme.htm which tells you to download the latest version of MSDE from the public Downloads site. That download is 70MB compressed and 90MB after extraction. Also, MSDN Library is included in the FPP (Full Packaged Product) media sets. It also used to be included in the "Full Setup" (DVD) downloads from the Subscriber Download site. The Final Beta is gone, but you can still see the Full Setup download of 2002. Beginning with 2003, MSDN wants you to download the latest Library separately. The full Library represents 3 CDs worth (but you should compare it against 2.5 CDs for an abbreviated Library, which is what Visual Studio has traditionally bundled). If you're trying to do all the math, it gets more complicated. The 2003 Enterprise Architect Edition download includes Visio for Enterprise Architects, which was a separate download in 2002. The 2003 RTM also includes Smart Device Extensions, which did not exist in 2002 and which was a separate download during the early betas of 2003, before becoming part of the Final Beta. Then there are MMIT, JUMP, etc. components which were available separately for 2002 but are now integrated in 2003. |
