Thanks Bill: .NET My Services, Microsoft Corp's high-profile set of XML web services postponed eight months ago, seems to have dropped off the company's 2003 roadmap, writes Gavin Clarke. Redmond, Washington-based Microsoft yesterday issued a nine-page document summarizing 2003 launch plans for operating systems, applications and tools. Product listed include Windows .NET Server 2003, Visual Studio.NET and Office 11. | ||

Ironically, many companies are offering similar services now, and everybody seems to be embracing them. From "Alerts" on cell phones, to online bookmark repositories, to wallet-style e-commerce, as long as Microsoft isn't doing it, everybody seems to like it.
The only difference is that these services are now decentralized, which means instead of worying about 1 company having your info, many will. Sigh... |

| Actually, RMD what everyone wanted was decentralization... so what I see as ironic is the huge amount of press and attention MS got for a year and a half without delivering whereas now, as you said, people are delivering these services without MS's "help" and without any press. |
