The software giant says it will not cut prices on Windows to compete with Lindows OS, the low-cost consumer Linux distribution. Microsoft says prices on Wal-Mart's Lindows PC are being kept artificially low. Microsoft will not cut the price on its Windows operating system to compete with a $199 (about £127) personal computer that runs rival operating software, the No. 1 software company's chief executive said on Wednesday. | ||

| Makes sense. No dope who buys a $200 computer is doing so because Windows is a couple of 10-notes overpriced. |

parker, why is it strange that a store would sell products from more than one company? Jesuschrist, those Microsoft-indoctrination classes are very effective aren't they? ...if you're shocked by a store that makes money by providing products from different companies! Wow, mind-blowing! I bet the article doesn't mention that the exact same PC with a modem included and Windows preinstalled is only ~$100 more.
Why lower license prices? For $100 more, you get a PC that you can connect to the net and an OS that actually works. :-) |

| I thought Ballmer's statements about subsidy for the trademark violating, fake Windows, Linux company's PC were rather interesting. |
