Going with our annoucement that the SP1 release is due to go gold tonight: Microsoft Corp. said it plans to distribute an update of the Windows XP operating system within 10 days as part of an effort to comply with the terms of an antitrust agreement with the U.S. Justice Department. Computer makers and end users will be able to selectively hide and display Microsoft programs, such as the Internet Explorer Web browser and Windows Media Player, Microsoft spokesman Jim Cullinan said. | ||

| Could I mention that the site loads insanely slow now? I can't say why, but the front page of ActiveWin takes at least a minute to load on my machine and I'm not behind a slow connection. |

The version of the "middle tier selector" that came with Windows 2k SP 3 is the funniest screen in the world!
Choose a default web browser: A)Use current. B)Use MS Explorer. From a functional stand point it does nothing. |

#1 I've noticed a slight delay. Maybe takes five seconds for the home page.
#2 I have Win2000 SP3 running. The "Set Program Access and Defaults" in the Start Menu just removes shortcuts on the desktop as far as I know. The news quote above doesn't really mention anything new. #1 - Loaded here in 10 seconds - we fixed the problem that slowed the site down yesterday. What kind of bandwidth are you on. The site will load slow on a 56k and there isn't much we can do about that other than reduce news which isn't something we'll do. I loaded the site on other connections today too and the site was back running running at normal speed.
Also you've been posting we're slow for several days now - are other sites slow for you, as it seems fine for most of us. This post was edited by Byron_Hinson[AW] on Wednesday, August 28, 2002 at 11:53. |

Yesterday it was dogging badly, but last night it was "fast" again.
I think they have ASP's "Response.Buffer = true" set on the main page, so, unfortunately, you don't see the page until everything is downloaded. If that's the case, then it's your bandwidth. The forums are a little slower than I've seen before, but not like it was yesterday. |

| We're happy for people to do what they like to get rid of them - all we are saying is that as a site it will be almost impossible for us to carry on without advertising moneys - and unfortunatly popups are bringing in the most. We're not sponsored etc - so if anyone wants to help pay $1500 a month we'll be glad to hear from you. |
