Thanks Andy. "The federal judge overseeing Sun Microsystems' antitrust suit against Microsoft said he'll consider ordering the world's largest software company to include Sun's Java programming language in Windows. Sun says Microsoft is using its Windows monopoly for personal-computer operating systems to gain control of the market for delivering services such as banking and pay movies over the Internet. Such "Web services" include programs that let a cell-phone user send and receive e-mail. U.S. District Judge J. Frederick Motz said issuing such an order "would be a rather profound act" but said he took Sun's allegations seriously." | ||

That was Microsoft's JVM which is older and locked at Java 1.1.4 which was before Java2 (which included lots of additions to the language like collections and the Swing GUI library).
Since Sun forced MS to keep their JVM at 1.1.4, Sun is now upset that Java can't progress past that on the client since most people don't have the Sun JVM. Sun never really made the client a priority, but now that all their other markets are collapsing around them, they realize that Java is their only chance for salvation, so it looks like they're making it a priority now. |

| RMD, your pr0n runtime uses nudity extensions that only work on Windows. This violates the terms of our pr0n licensing agreement, and has also allowed you to sell more pr0n development tools than me. I shall see you in court. :-) |

AFAIK, it means porn. I guess it's spelled differently to throw off the average Joe (and maybe the law in certain instances). Why is hacker spelled hax0r (maybe has something to do with hex)? It could just be that they thought it was cooler that way (like boyz instead of boys) :-)
I never thought l33t was important enough to study/research. I just know how to read most of it because it's so prevalent on the net. This post was edited by n4cer on Wednesday, August 28, 2002 at 15:20. |
