Im a newb as you may have been able to tell , but i have a very simple question to ask about networking 2 computers at home. i have my main pc wich is a desktop, and a laptop. the desktop has no wireless capabilities and is currently not connected to the internet, my laptop on the other hand is connected to a wireless internet connection. both have ethernet ports, and i can set them up so that they are conected together (set the ip address on each under the network conections). my question is, is there a way that i can make my desktop utillise the wireless conection on the laptop? i have tried a few things to no avail. both are running windows xp SP3. any help would be great

First, how is your laptop using a wireless connection? Are you "sponging" off of someone elses wireless transmission (which is illegal) or do you have your own internet connection at your home? Next, if you have your own connection, simply use a router and plug in the desktop to it. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway 15.4" Laptop, Windows Vista Ultimate/Server 2008, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200

[/QUOTE] its one of those "wireless broadband" connections, ie. standalone wireless adsl satalite reciever. its my own internet connection, and my laptop has wireless capabilitys so it is recieving the transmission from the router. i have another router but if i plug both the pc and laptop into it will it allow me to share the wireless conection that the laptop is recieving from another router/modem? or is there a way i can plug a crossover cable from the ethernet ports on both the laptop and desktop to share that connection?

connect the desktop computer to the router. and configured the router. if you want to use the wireless connection on the desktop. use the wireless lan card or nic card . with the help of these wireless card you can connect the desktop computer to the router. ---------------------------------------------- computer support, computer repair
