Hi, i'm new in this forum and first of all i'd like to send my best regards for all of you. I have this problem with my laptop. It's a toshiba model with windows vista premium. When i plug a usb device (most of the time a usb memory), sometimes my computer crash. This not always happen, but when it does, i have to shutdown manually (direct from the on/off button) my laptop, because it doesn't shutdown or reboot in any other way. I could plug my usb memory several times without problem, but suddenly at random moment, when i plug it my computer crash, and even after reboot it, when i plug again, crash again. Anyone could know what's this about?? Any problem with my driver?? Any update?? Any solution. Well, thanks for your help, and again, my best regards

It could be one of several things - a bad USB memory stick or the software on it, a bad USB port, or possibily a motherboard driver that needs to be updated. First, check Toshiba's website to see if there are any updated drivers. If so, install them. Next, check the USB mfgr's site for updated software for it. i.e. Sandisk uses the U3 drivers (www.u3.com). Also, do a virus scan just for kicks (you ARE using an anti-virus, AREN'T you? Of course... In fact i'm using a full security center :P (Eset Smart Security). I'll check toshiba's website first. My USB memory, how i see it, is less likely to be the problem because it works fine in other computers when i've plugged it (although all of them have been win xp). Furthermore, i've plugged other USB memory with the same results (sometimes it works, sometimes it crashes). However, i'll check my USB memory vendor's website to see what i find. Thanks for your answer. I'll keep you informed of whatever happens. Regards...

If this happens with any USB device, it's either a problem with the actual USB port or their motherboard interface, or any motherboard drivers that the Toshiba has. BTW, which model is this? ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway 15.4" Laptop, Windows Vista Ultimate/Server 2008, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200
Originally Posted by Jennefier: Attaching any USB can't crash any Os ,
As noted above, if there is either a hardware issue with the USB cable (a short), the device itself, the USB port, or a software issue (i.e. poorly written driver), plugging in a USB device COULD cause a BSOD. The original poster had it happen. I've had it happen. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway 15.4" Laptop, Windows Vista Ultimate/Server 2008, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200

installed the usb drivers from the internet . update the drivers. check the usb drive softwares , may be your usb device is bad or does not support the motherboard port. may be the softwares are infected by the virus which are in the usb device. so scan the usb device softwares first. when you remove the usb device , cancel the usb icon so that it can not create any problem. ---------------------------------------------- computer support, computer repair
