I have just bought a new Vista desktop. On my previous XP-Pro desktop I could synchronize important files with my laptop on my home network. On my new Vista desktop I can see the folders I wish to synchronize but I cannot open them. On my laptop I can see the folders on my desktop but also cannot open them. When I do I am told that I do not have permission to access the shared folder. I am the only one using both computers as the Administrator and on both computers in the 'Network Sharing Centre' 'Filesharing' is turned ON and 'Password protected sharing' is turned OFF. I would appreciate it if someone could give me some ideas as to where the problem lies.

On both computers, right click on the folders you want to share and enable sharing. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway 15.4" Laptop, Windows Vista Ultimate/Server 2008, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200

I have already done that. As I mentioned in my post I can see the laptop folders that I want to share to synchronize on my desktop and vise versa .... but I cannot open them to see the files.

FOUND THE PROBLEM !! I had set 8 different folder to be allowed to be shared. By chance I found that 1 of the folders could be opened. And yet the other 7 had all been set to be shared in exactly the same way. As an experiment I changed the sharing to no sharing on these folders and than set them to be shared again and found that they could now be opened on the other computer. This is one of those unexplained things that can drive you crazy and wastes so much time. Having just switched from a XP desktop to a new Vista one I thought I was missing something with regards permissions. I hope this will help someone else.
