| Hi All, I'm a new user to this forum so please be gentle.....[emote|:)] Here's my issue. I have an SBS 2003 Server at our office location and want to give access to workers desktops from home. Their OS is XP Home. I've setup a VPN which allows home users to connect, this works as they can ping the internal IP Address of the server so alls well. BUT when they try to connect to an office PC (running Windows Vista) they get an error message "unable to connect" I would have thought that if they can connect to the VPN they would have access to their work desktop. I've enabled remote desktop sharing on their office PC and can connect from within the local network so I know this works. I asked the user to Ping an internal IP of one of the work stations from his home PC and got the request time out so I'm assuming the the problem here is the 2003 server (the user can ping that from home once connected to the VPN but no other internal IP). I've heard some where that SBS 2003 has the ability to confine users (computers) from gaining too much access to the network if the home system does not meet certian criteria. I set the user up in the same way that I setup myself - I have access to the office DT's from home (I'm running Vista). So the only possible solution I can come up with is that the Server is only allowing limited access to this user because his machine is running XP Home. Can some one enlighten me?? |

| Because Windows XP Home does not have the ability to log into a domain, SBS 2003 (or Server 2003 or Server 2008) cannot authenticate the user.
