It all started out with my computer getting infected. The viruses have gotten so out of hand that I've decided to format my computer. Somehow, I've lost all admin privileges. I can't use or install any anti-virus programs and I can't even access my control panel. So formatting seems to be the only choice. The problem is, my computer won't boot the XP Home CD when I restart the computer. Yes, I've set the Boot Sequence to run the CD drive first. And when I try running the CD from inside windows, it gives me an error message basically saying that my version of windows (XP Pro) is newer than XP Home(I'm trying to downgrade Pro to Home), so I can't install it. It then tells me to reboot my computer and boot the CD, which doesn't work. I then decided to try the 6 floppy bootdisk method. Everything went smoothly until the last CD where I get an error message saying "STOP: C0000221 unknown hard error" and "C:\systemroot\System32\Ntdll.dll" I downloaded an uncorrupted ntdll.dll file and tried to replace it but it says that the file is in use, so I can't do that either (unless I'm doing it wrong) I even changed the ribbon cable for my CD drive, but it still won't boot the CD...I'm completely stumped and out of ideas. Someone please, please help me out. It would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance

Check with your computer mfgr to see if there is a third party hard disk driver that needs to be installed. At the beginning of the WinXP install process, there is a text line to press F5 (I believe) to install this driver. This driver should be available from your computer mfgr's website or on a CD that came with your computer. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 700C - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, ATi Radeon 9550; SB Audigy SE; Windows Vista Business, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200
