Hi everybody,
I'm currently experiencing network setting problems.
I've two laptop computers, one with XP (SP2 family edition), another one with Vista family Edition.
I'd like to create a network, using a crossover RJ45 cable between the two of them.
They're both already connected to a wireless network to access the internet (via a router modem).
Here are my settings:
-XP computer IP address (set manually): 192.168.10.1 (it can't conflict with the wireless network address which is given via DHCP, the range being 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.50).
-Vista computer IP address: 192.168.10.2
-Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
-DNS servers: 194.2.0.20 & 194.2.0.50
Both computers are in the same work group.
Everything is fine on the XP side but when i try to explore the network from the xp computer i can't see anything but the xp computer.
On the vista side, the following error occurs:
Local network connection: unidentified network
If i click on "diagnostic" i can read: "the network card "connection to the local network" doesn't have a valid IP configuration".
In the dos shell i can send a ping to 127.0.0.1 and to my own address 192.162.10.2
But i can't send any ping to the XP computer.
In local network properties, i disabled the IPv6 protocol and left only the IPv4 one.
Didn't work...
To be sure, i tried everything again first with the firewalls disabled ans then after disconnecting the wireless network. I haven't been any luckier.
I read quite a bit on the subject but couldn't find anything relevant.
Thanks a lot to all of you for your help.
Oliv
