Here is the deal. I have cable isp with 12mb dl and 2mb ul and I am connecting mainly to a gaming server in Dallas I live in arkansas. The problem is up until about 4 months ago I had a latency of about 30 - 50 ms then it went to 100 so I went and got a new modem (retarded tech support) did not help then I did a tracert to the server address and it says that the route goes from arkansas to kansas to detroit to denver then to oklahoma then to dallas My first question is why? next question is can I change the route ? next question is can they change the route ? my last question is do you people think i am a loser for worrying about a game server? ---------------------------------------------- If it ain't broke ....fix it till it is.

If you were to run tracert on any internet connection, you'd find that it most likely makes a number of router hops. The reason that there may be multiple router hops is that there is no direct connection available from your ISP to the server your attaching to. As to changing the route, it may change the next time you connect. Best suggestion is to contact the admins of the gaming server and find out if there's a problem (like the server is too busy with too many connections). As to being a loser worrying about a game server - no - but it's nothing to devote a whole lot of thought to. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 700C - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, ATi Radeon 9550; SB Audigy SE; Windows Vista Business, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200
