| i recently bought an external hard drive but i cant get my pc to recognize it, its got a seagate 250gb barracuda hard drive in the case, but theres no slave jumper. what do i do? |

| What type of PC and OS are you running? Are the USB ports 2.0 or 1.1? | im running a hp with xp sp2, and i dot think it has anything to do with the usb connection, i can get it to recognize it now but it says that the drivers are not installed but i couldnt find any drivers for it. |

| Most external HD's should be instantly recognized by WinXP. In checking Seagate's site, no add'l drivers are required. First, I'd suggest checking the drive on another computer to determine if it's a problem with the drive or your computer. If another computer recognizes the drive, then it's your computer. If not, then it's the drive. Also, on your computer, make sure that there aren't any exclamation points next to the USB ports in Device Manager. | i had the same issue with my 320 external, what u need to do is once your drive is connected right click on my compuer select manage then on the right of the new window click disk management, you will then c a list on all your drives right click on the 250 and click open or even right click on it and go import drive this should work |
