Over the weekend I tried to fix a friends computer. They had a trojan.win32 virus and purchased a virus scan that detected the virus but did not remove it. I purchased Nortons and went to install it, in the middle of the installation the computer crashed and now does not work at all. The error message I'm getting is "Please report this problem as : load needed DLLs for kernel. Please contact your support person to report this problem. " I checked microsoft.com and it tells me to use the ERD disk.. what is that? I tried using the Reboot and Restore disk but they do not work. Can anyone help??

It sounds like this trojan has damaged the OS to the point you'll need to do a complete restore...meaning you'll need to reformat and restore the entire system (and yes...the loss of data). Also, I'd STRONGLY recommend AGAINST using Symantec/Norton products - their reputation of late (ability to detect/remove viruses and such), along with being a resource pig, and the fact they don't fully uninstall makes them not the best choice. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 1800 - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, nVidia 5200; SB Live Value; Windows Vista Business, Photoshop CS2, Nikon D200 and D100

I tried to do a restore from the disk that came with the pc but it's not working. It gives an error saying Programs are not installed or something like that. Is there another way to do a reboot?

Reboot and start the install process. Have the WinXP disc delete all partitions and reformat and reinstall everything. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 1800 - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, nVidia 5200; SB Live Value; Windows Vista Business, Photoshop CS2, Nikon D200 and D100
