When i turn my computer on it tried to instal multimedia audio controller but to no avail. It cant find the software, cd, or floppy. This computer was given to me so i have no clue what to do from here. I got all my system info from AIDA 32 to @ssist anyone who can @ssist me in solving the problem. Audio devices don't just disappear. Did you install something (software, download something, etc) prior to this occurring? Next, did your computer come with backup cd's that contain the drivers for this system? If not, here's a suggestion. Go to Control Panel/System (if you're in cl@ssic mode) or Control Panel/Performance and Maintenance/System (if you're in Category view). Click on Hardware and then Device Manager. Under Sound and Audio, check to see if there is anyting with an exclamation point (!) next to it. If so, right click and delete it. Then, reboot, and let the computer search for the driver. If that doesn't work, you'll need to provide some additional DETAILED information on your computer - such as make, model number, processor, etc. for us to be of help. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 1800 - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, nVidia 5200; SB Live Value; Windows XP Professional, Photoshop CS2, Nikon D200 and D100

Sounds more like an issue with your speakers. Check to make sure all connections are plugged in correctly. If you have headphones, you can plug them into the soundcard to see if they work. If so, then it's the speakers. If not, check the volume control in Control Panel to make sure that it's on. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 1800 - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, nVidia 5200; SB Live Value; Windows XP Professional, Photoshop CS2, Nikon D200 and D100

Lets start again, my apologies, im not explaining things clear enough. I have seen the same problem on the forum by many users. When i go to the hardware, there is no audio device. When i go to turn up the volume, it says 'no audio device' and its all shaded grey. My speakers are fine, installed correctly and connected appropriatley. when i first noticed this i restarted my computer. I was then met with an install new hardware window to install multimedia. When i do so it cant find the recommended link or software to do so. I have no cd's with the computer as it was given to me when another student left the country. I have never had any problems with this and it has always worked.

Back to my first response - did you install something prior to this problem? Is this a retail computer (HP, Compaq, etc) or a "custom" (meaning that unknown components were used) computer? ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 1800 - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, nVidia 5200; SB Live Value; Windows XP Professional, Photoshop CS2, Nikon D200 and D100

Go to Dell's website and download the driver for the soundcard. Follow Dell's instructions (from their site) on how to install it. Or...did the person you bought this computer from give you the CD's that came with it? Usually, this includes the operating system and drivers and such. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 1800 - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, nVidia 5200; SB Live Value; Windows XP Professional, Photoshop CS2, Nikon D200 and D100
