Ok, i am quite new to the computer world really. I want to purchase some computers for my company. I have been trying to read up on both the mac osx and windows xp pro. Most sites seems to favor mac osx i cant find any that favor windows xp pro. It seems a little one sided. I honestly dont know so i need any type of information you guys can give me about xp pro. Is xp a better OS that OSX if so why??? I just want some information to backup so i can make a decission. I hear that mac osx is better but noone is telling me why, well the main reason i hear because its more stable, cant get virus, more secure and more userfriendly. Since i am new the the computer world that really sounds like a a good reason why. But, i just cant believe that xp isnt secure easy to use and all that jazz. Well this is my last hope on finding out information about xp pro why will it be better for me to use for my company. I dont want to get a system then a couple of weeks later all my information in stolen because someone i believe they stated that it can be hacked into from the internet in like 15 mins. If that is true then i will really have to get a mac which was told to me is basicly unhackable. Well thanks for your adive in advance.

Much depends upon the size of your company, the software you want to use, etc. Overall, both are stable. Where WinXP gets into trouble is with third party software and poorly written drivers. OSX does tend to be a little more stable. As to viruses, spyware, etc, it's not that it's less succeptable, but more that there's more "glory" in writing a virus to screw up Windows or hacking a Windows system, than there is with OSX or Linux. Mac's can be hacked. Linux can be hacked. It's knowing how to best bullet-proof your system through the use of hardware (i.e. router with a firewall) and software (antivirus, spyware, software firewall). What you need to determine is where your software needs lie. If the software you will use is written only for Windows, then there's your answer. If it's cross-platform, choose Mac. You'll find Apple computers tend to be a little more expensive. But one of the advantages is that they can now run both OSX and WinXP/Vista through dual boot. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 1800 - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, nVidia 5200; SB Live Value; Windows XP Professional, Photoshop CS2, Nikon D200 and D100

That was the first good answer i have herd. Most answer i recived was that Windows XP Pro h@sso many holes in it and it isnt stable and it is basicly a terrible product. Also how much better it would be to go with the mac osx. Most of the software that I will be using can be used on both depending on which package i buy. It is basicly Pratice management. Also we will have a lot of private information on these machines thats why i was really afraid of getting hacked into from the internet. So security was a big thing for me. I dont have a budget yet on how much i will spend for a computer but i will most likely get the top of the line so it will last for a while.

mirokuu If the software is ported to both...yikes - coin toss time. First, make sure that you have a good router with a hardware firewall in front of everything. That's your first line of defense. From a hardware standpoint, you'll find Windows PC's and laptops to be lower cost. Keep in mind that if you're doing work for others, the majority of businesses work in a Windows environment. Meaning, if you send them reports, documents and such, it had better be in a format they can use. When it comes to software security, choose wisely. [hint - Norton isn't a wise choice - resource pig, no longer considered the best out there, can do more damage than good] Go to an Apple Store, and then either Best Buy or CompUSA's business departments. Talk to both - get their input. Take both answers with a grain of salt.
