Check through the multiple posts here, and also do a Google search for the specific file/virus you received. There are a number of variants and each has a different routine to get rid of the little bugger. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 700C - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, ATi Radeon 9550; SB Audigy SE; Windows Vista Business, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200

Hey, I'm new to the forum .... this is the first post of mines so sorry if If I'm not computer literate! Rightio, I've had the msn virus as well .... and I'd been in and out a bunch of sites much like this but couldn't actually find something that seemed a dead cert of working. Firstly, I was testing Norton before I bought it just before I picked this virus up ... Norton did not pick it up (altho it was only a trial version so I dnt know if this is perhaps why!) ... I then downloaded McAfee .... which also didnt pick it up. I've now got Ashampoo ..... the point is tho, I dnt know of any anti-virus that can delete it .... nor have I found any worm or trojan virus remover which can (I may be looking in all the wrong places tho!) .... Eventually, this is what I did: I went onto my task manager (ctrl, alt and delete) and shut down all of the processes under my name which shldnt have been there. If you've never done this on task manager before and dont know what to do dont worry - simply go to all processes with your name on it, click on it and end the process .... some of them need to be there but dont panic, if you click on these ones it will tell you they cannot be ended. Next go to your recieved files and delete the zipped folder you were sent (KEEP A NOTE OF WHAT THE FILE IS CALLED). Now after this you can do various things. You can go through the config if you want as has been previously suggested, but if your like me and dont wanna start messing around with that, then theres an easier way to do it. Go to start and click search ...... type in the virus file name and search all files and folders. Your computer will search and may come back with no results (this is because it buries itself in temp folders on your system which are hidden). When this happens though, it will give you an option to "change whether hidden and system files are included" - you want to click on this and select the option to expand. Then hit search. This time you should find around 3/4 files all with the virus name. Let it search the whole computer. When the search is done this time highlight the files and delete them all. Empty the recycle bin straight away. Finally, go to add/remove programs through control panel and delete all traces of msn (i.e. messenger live, sign in assistant, live messenger toolbar .... the lot!) Then re-download and the virus should be gone! As of yet I've had no further problems! Hope this helps everyone! Let me know how you all get on! ---------------------------------------------- I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy it!
