Chances are that your USB ports are USB 2, and you need to install the drivers for them. First, make sure you have SP2 installed. Go to Control Panel/Performance and Maintenance/System and click on the Hardware tab. Click on the Device Manager button and you'll probably see a yellow ! next to the USB. Right click and choose to update drivers. Follow the onscreen prompts and you should be good to go. An alternate method would be to check the backup CD that came with your computer for these drivers. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 1800 - P4 1.8gz, 512mb RAM, ATi Radeon 8500; SB Live Value; Windows XP Professional, Photoshop CS2, Nikon D2Hs and D100

When you open up Device Manager (per my original response), are there any yellow [b]! I just purchased an external USB hard drive for my laptop. It is a case that connects using a USB cable and has a normal 2.5 laptop hard drive in it. However, when I connect it to the USB port - nothing happens. I tried this on seevral alptops running Win XP with SP2. i een tried it on a PC with WIn XP with SP2 - still nothing worked. On Windows vista it worked. what is the solution?

I was using SONY Micro Vault 8GB USB Flash drive and it was all well till I formatted it as NTFS. It was already existing with FAT32 and I use WinXP Pro @ office and XP Home @ home. When I insert the drive, I get a popup in the system tray saying 'new hardware detected'. But My computer does not show this drive. Device manager shows normal for sometime and then after a minute it turns yellow. By this time the system tray baloon says, you have a problem with hardware installation. I have another flash drive which work perfectly in both the systems. All started with the format to NTFS. Is there any solutions to reformati it back to FAT32. Can somebody help?
