If you use a true firewall like zone alarm it will tell you. You might want to download a program that scans for "spyware" programs that act as servers. You can use netstat -a, to list the open tcp ports. The xp firewall only blocks incoming packets, you can look at pfirewall.log in the windir to see whats going on.
