If there is one thing that drives me mad about MS is its lack of care about the integrity of the look of their OS. It seems like they just don't freaking care, we will pay anyways, our needs are the least important to them. XP has this nice (way to bubble gum for me) new 'interface' which is just the explorer shell with windowsblinds on (and allegory not a fact). Many of the new icons are lovely, yet MS has left old icons in the shell, on the administrative window and other areas, why not just freaking redo the icon set for the whole OS, if giving it a new look is important to them, also, it is obvious that it is just a decent (no more than that) skinning job for the old 9x look, no more than that, also, the shell is not smart enough to detect that many icons don't have a large version, so instead of showing the smaller version, it shows then augmented and horribly pixalated. Sorry for babling, but I am disappointed at the lack of attention that was placed on the whole new interface thing, it is just a badly made skin, not consistent thruhgout the OS, and simple making a mish-mash of things, some message windows don't even bother using the XP look....maybe I shall go to OSX

| My intention with the comment was just to discuss a very important issue on the interface of XP, not to bitch for bitching's sake. I think it is in our interest to talk about sme elements that MS seems ignore, I will give due mention to Apple for truly pushing forward interface development and at the same time elegance (which IS important) most of os deal with servers and such, therefore a 'pretty' interface is not much of a big deal, but to other users, whose daily work takes them from app to app and nothing more, how it looks and how it 'feels' whe using it is important. Windows looks like it was designed by IT managers for IT managers, I am clear on that, and Apple's interfaces have always been far superios tha MS in details and usaility (I work in the uability field and again and again our test group responds better to mac os interfaces that MS). So I am not bitching (some people's answer seems to be in the line of 'big deal, you don't like it, go suck an egg), i am just trying to get some talk on a point that I think is valid, I still preffer MS over Apple (although their computers are beautifull and quite fast too) so I am not ditching one for the other, just a comment |
