I am sure they will have eval copies available soon if not already. Your best solution is going to be a clean install. Generally upgrading brings a lot of legacy crap from your previous OS. If you really want to try out XP before the 25th then I suggest you sign up for the Windows XP program. Its ten bucks and you can download RC2. You can then try your upgrade and it should work.

There are two version of Windows XP. XP Pro and XP Home Edition. Windows XP 2600 Final is just the final build number of Windows XP. That could mean Pro or Home Edition as they are both build number 2600.

To perform a clean install of Windows XP you are going to need to boot off of theXP CD Rom. Within that installation you can repartition and or reformat your hard drive.
