Sorry guys, the Delta faucet popup ad just pushed me over the edge. Not only does this one come up, it refreshes itself every 10 seconds to grab control of your mouse. I close it, it pops back up... I ignore it, it pops back up.
I'm now looking for a good popup filter. I've always been somewhat reluctant to buy one of these in the past, because it feels like extortion, but the free ones I have tried do not work so well... I'm looking for the best. Like I said you should sell one so that at least you get the profit instead of someone else. If anybody has an idea how these work, I'd be more than willing to help with writing or testing. I just haven't seen good docs on how they integrate into IE, my plan was always to create a proxy server of some sort. |

| We're happy for people to do what they like to get rid of them - all we are saying is that as a site it will be almost impossible for us to carry on without advertising moneys - and unfortunatly popups are bringing in the most. We're not sponsored etc - so if anyone wants to help pay $1500 a month we'll be glad to hear from you |

I've had good luck with Proxomitron. Not only does it block pop-ups, it blocks banner ads, flash animations, animated gifs (stops the animation), offers some privacy filters and cookie filters, etc. It's a Proxy "server" that sits between your browser and the Internet and does a good job of filtering out the crap. Of course it's configurable so you can enable Flash and GIFs, if you want, but I usually leave GIFs off. http://proxomitron.org/ |

Byron... I know, and I can appreciate that. But the popups have gotten out of hand over the past year not just on your site but overall. I'm glad advertisers are paying money for them, but I can guarantee them that I will never buy any of their products. The Delta faucet one just made me a Moen or Price Pfister customer for life, and I am going to send them a nice little note informing them of that. I don't mind the advertisements inline on pages, and I've frequently purchased stuff from such companies because of the name recognition. But any company which goes out of it's way to annoy me doesn't get my business. That also includes telemarketing. |
