You need to post the FULL errors that you get. Otherwise you will not get an answer.

Since this is on a formated drive it probably is hardware. You needt o copy the xp cd to the hard drive and try installing from that. See article Q311755 for info how to do this. You might also want to look at Q310064 for info how to troubleshoot file copy errors.

Wipe the mbr. From a bootdisk type fdisk /mbr, do it about 5 times. But this really is a hardware issue, only way to fix that is to have the hardware checked out.
