well...

like meany said, the startup group should be empty. For instance, you could go into msconfig, uncheck the startup items you dont want, then type this:

msconfig /commit:6

This will make the startup settings permanant. It might be easier to use a 3rd party program to remove startup items.

One word of warning if you play with the services, dont disable the plug and play service or you might be prompted to reactivate. Also dont disable the system restore service, as it will delete all restore points.
