dont use the sun java, its totally different. Search google on msjava and youll find thousands of sites that have it. Or wait for service pack1 which will be out very soon.

Sun's java doesnt just install java - it installs a bunch of other crap too, kinda like aol. It adds an icon in control panel, and hooks into ie. I've heard of some cases where sun's java didnt work until you went into the control panel applet and changed some settings.

I have never used sun's java. If you use sun's java and java doesn't work because of some setting in sun's program, i will be unable to help you. A simple search of google will show thousands of sites that have microsofts java, stick with that.

And just for your info, when xp launched the current version of sun's java conflicted with microsoft's java. The newest version of sun's java should be fine, but there is a history of sun's software breaking windows.

"I can't see AOL anywhere on my system, so I can't see where it installs AOL."

So if you weren't saying i thought java installed aol, what exactly WERE you saying?

There are differences between MS and Sun Java as some Java Applets only run on the MS version and by using the Sun Java some applets are useless.

I know this as we have a £10m finance system at BT called Niku 6 and this refuses to work on Sun's Java as it uses special security functions in the MS version.

Of course it is included in SP1, but if for some reason you don't want that, you can get it, directly from Microsoft, here:
